Understanding SAP SuccessFactors Licenses and Functionalities
After SAP acquired an American cloud-based human capital management (HCM) software solutions company SuccessFactors for US$ 3.4Billion in 2012, it has changed the license model more than 20 times and it keeps changing every quarter.

The licenses can broadly be classified as follows,

  1. Learning
  2. Employee Central
  3. Compensation
  4. Onboarding
  5. Performance & Goals
  6. Recruiting
  7. Succession & Development
  8. Workforce Analytics & Planning

As of September 2017, there are 33 licensed products. It includes SAP Preferred Success (offshore support service) to its customers (optional) at 20% of the annual recurring license fee. Let’s see the description of the licenses in this blog. Please note that you will not be able to find all this in one document in SAP websites or in other forums. I have mentioned SAP license material numbers alongside the license name to help installed base customers relate their existing bill of materials.

SAP SuccessFactors Advanced Learning package – (8005162)

This includes all components of the SAP SuccessFactors Learning solution (8003763), the SAP SuccessFactors Succession & Career Development solution (8003774) and the advanced edition of SAP Jam Collaboration (8003552).

Metric definition:

Users are individuals authorized to access the Cloud Service. Users are measured as individuals with an active profile in the Cloud Service and/or whose data has been processed in the Cloud Service.

SAP SuccessFactors Compensation – (8005103)

This solution supports global compensation planning for base pay, short-term incentives, and long-term incentives.

This is a reduced time option for the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systems following a natural or human-induced disaster.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central – (8005136)

This is a flexible and reliable core HR system for managing the total workforce across the globe.

This solution provides the toolset necessary to do gross-to-net payroll calculations based on company and/or union rules and legal requirements. This includes the determination of the gross remuneration and the calculation of company-specific, employee-specific, and legal deductions.

The functional use license is available for individuals who have limited or no access to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central but data is managed within the solution. This version includes Dell BOOMI cloud integration platform-as-a-service.

SAP SuccessFactors Enterprise basic package – (8005158)

SAP SuccessFactors Learning – (8005144)

Our learning solution can help you develop a single, powerful foundation for inspiring continuous learning. It consists of the learning management system in the SAP SuccessFactors Learning solution, Foundation, and content storage of 25 gigabytes (GBs) as well as 250 megabytes (MBs) content bandwidth per user per year.

The Learning Analytics solution provides a methodology for creating insights into your investments in training and development. It is available to SAP SuccessFactors Learning (8005144) customers only.

SAP SuccessFactors Learning, content bandwidth add-on – (8003446)

This solution is an extension of the learning management system’s (LMS) bundled-content bandwidth and enables customers to buy additional content bandwidth in increments of 100 GB should they be more than their allocated amount per year or anticipate needing more than what is offered. The customer is allocated 250 MB per active LMS user of a learning product or a validated learning product.

SAP SuccessFactors Learning, content storage add-on – (8003445)

The Learning solution includes 25 GB of content storage. A customer may buy additional GB of content storage in 25 GB increments.

SAP SuccessFactors Learning, functional use – (8005433)

For Learning or Validated Learning, functional use is available only for the following categories of individuals: Non-employee (includes contingent/contractors); individuals with a limited or temporary employee relationship during a year or 12-month period; employees and non-employees whose records are actively managed by the organization but do not have access to the solution.

Metric definition:

Users with functional use rights must be identified in the Learning or Validated Learning Cloud Service by Customer separately from other Users.

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding – (8005154)

Ramp up and retain employees and new hires with a comprehensive approach to accelerate people, process, and productivity.

SAP SuccessFactors Validated Learning – (8005146)

This aids to improve employee skills, reduce compliance risk, and effectively engage external learning audiences. Our learning solution can help you develop a single, powerful foundation for inspiring continuous learning. It consists of the learning management system (LMS) in the SAP SuccessFactors Learning solution, Foundation, and content storage of 25 gigabytes (GBs) as well as 250 megabytes (MBs) content bandwidth per user per year. The validated software-as-a-service (SaaS) for the LMS option includes two primary components: a premium multi-tenant SaaS with annual updates and a validated environment with IQ audit reports and validation toolkit.

On top of these licensed SF products, there are Disaster recovery options available at 24% of the annual recurring license fee and additional test tenants available for HCM suite & Employee central for preview & production environment are charged at US$ 11,160 for preview & US$ 22,320 for a production environment.
